‘Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern’
to air episode filmed in West Virginia

Be sure to watch “Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern” on the Travel Channel at 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27. During Zimmern’s visit to the state, he sampled dishes at the RoadKill Cook-off, went whitewater rafting with Adventures on the Gorge, and visited with Chef Dale Hawkins at Fish Hawk Acres farm. Also featured on the show are sisters Naomi Roberts of St. Albans and Rachel Dickenson of Dunmore, whose recipe won first place at the RoadKill Cook-off. Food Industry Survey

Industry members that serve food are asked to please complete the survey that WVFarm2U is conducting. This is to provide baseline data for a local foods project, funded by Benedum. They would like the surveys by March 1. The survey is located here: http://wv-web.com/fha2.php.

WVDA to sponsor Agritourism Day at
The Waterfront Hotel Morgantown

The West Virginia Department of Agriculture is hosting an Agritourism Day from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29 at the Waterfront Hotel in Morgantown.

This is a day packed with new ideas you can use for your agribusiness attraction, including exhibit booths where you can learn what other state agritourism attractions are doing at their facilities.

The workshops will include keynote speaker Hugh McPherson, MAZE Master MaizeQuest from Pennsylvania, speaking on “A Goal Without a Plan Is a Wish”

Other guest speakers will include:

  • Donna Brooke-Alt, Brookedale Farm, Fort Ashby, W.Va.: “Agritourism on the Farm in West Virginia”
  • Melissa Stewart, Agriculture & Natural Resources Extension Specialist, W.Va. State University: “Junior Master Gardener Program on your Farm”
  • Josh Hedrick, guide/owner, Smoke Hole Resort’s Outfitters/Guide Service: “Fee Fishing on Your Property”
  • Mike Perry, co-founder, Heritage Farm Museum & Village, Huntington, W.Va.
  • Dean Hardman, program specialist, Jackson’s Mill Heritage Center, Weston, W.Va.: “Event Planning for West Virginia Agritourism Including Tours and School Groups”
Other guest speakers will include state Agriculture Commissioner Gus R. Douglass and Tourism Commissioner Betty Carver.
